Last week, we hosted our first Small Business Supper Club. As the sun dropped behind Austin’s épicerie, 30 entrepreneurs gathered for a meaningful conversation over a delicious sit-down dinner, served by owner/chef Sarah McIntosh and paired with bottles from The Austin Winery.
We created this event to bring members of the Able Network together in person for a chance to connect around the human experience of owning a small business. A chance to move past the veneer of social media positivity — to step behind the curtain and share some of the hardest parts of entrepreneurship with one another.
Kammok founder Greg McEvilly spoke to the group, reflecting on the rollercoaster of small business ownership, including the experience of being a “dad”-trepreneur (hitting mute on his phone to keep his buyer at REI from realizing he was closing a deal with his crying baby in his arms) and of being the “shocks” of the business — absorbing the bumps in the road while keeping everyone in the car moving forward as comfortably as possible.
